The Power of the Written Word
The Power of the Written Word The beloved disciple John wrote several epistles concerning the Savior and the Saint. He shares with us that without a Savior’s death, burial, and resurrection, and the belief on that glorious gospel, that we could not see nor enter into the Kingdom of God. John writes in the beginning of his gospel that Jesus Christ is the Word of God. This very Word that divides the saved and the lost, the light and the darkness, the proud and the humble is mentioned in Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. There is power in the precious Word of God and it must be presented to all the world that as John writes in his epistle in chapter twenty verse thirty-one “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.” I believe as Bible Baptist Church has been given such a ministry to produce and multiply the Word of God in many aspects, that we must continue to work hard and press toward the mark, because the souls of men are at stake. There is power in the written Word of God and we are able to send that very power, that precious power, the Word of God into many hands across our world. Let’s press on, let’s push forward, and let’s ask God to enlarge our coast for the great cause of Christ. With great responsibility comes great price and expectations. To whom much is given, much is also required. God has given Bible Baptist Church much, let us bring forth much fruit for Him this year. Posted on 26 Aug 2009 by Pastor Greg A. Steinke
Christianity, not just a decision, but a life
It is of no doubt that the most important decision that anyone could ever make is the decision of salvation. I mention many times that one cannot necessarily change his or her past, but one can change their eternity. We know that the Bible tells us that "whosoever believeth not is condemned already". This certainly is a truth, however this truth is more than just a decision to trust Christ in order to escape eternal damnation. This decision is a life of following in obedience the Christ that we have trusted in.
Paul makes knows in his book to the Collosians in chapter two verse six, "As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him:". This has an understanding that once reception has taken place, there is a life to follow. Jude mentions that we should "earnestly contend for the faith" while Paul also mentions that we are to "walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called". I believe that Christianity is not just a decision for salvation, but a life of living as a child of God. This world today is crumbling down like a sandcastle on the beach at high tide. The waves of untruth and watered-down Biblical teachings have left many Christians week in their walk with Christ. It is time for Christians to gird up the loins with truth and live as we have been given the instruction to do so. Christianity is about obedience to the Word of God. It does not necessarily fall under the category of belief. Let me illustrate with a story from the Bible. The disciples of the Lord were fishing all night long and caught nothing. As they were washing their nets, the Lord Jesus told them to launch back out into the deep and to let down their nets for a drought. Peter mentioned to the Lord through his expertise that they have toiled all night and have caught nothing. Peter was a fisherman, Peter knew the lake, and Peter knew when the best fishing time was and it had past. He then proceeded to launch out into the deep and said, "nevertheless at thy word". This indicated obedience with out the element of belief. I certainly believe that the writer of Hebrews brings us to the understanding in chapter eleven that when obedience takes place in our lives then our faith will increase and our believing will then be coupled with our obedience. However, there are commands in the Bible that are given that every Christian must follow whether there is the element of belief or not. Obedience is still obedience. We must understand that Christianity is not just a decision, but a life of obedience. I trust that if you are a Christian that we are going to purpose in our lives to live the life of a Christian, not just wear the title. If you are not a Christian and would like to be, please contact us and we would be honored to share with you the wonderful plan of salvation. May the Lord bless you.
